Incorporated in 1941 in NY - A business executive and philanthropist, Leon Lowenstein was the president and chairman of M. Lowenstein Corp., a major textile corporation founded by his father and brother. Lowenstein served as chairman of the Leon Lowenstein Foundation, Inc., until his death in 1976. Among his major contributions were the Leon Lowenstein Center on Fordham's Lincoln Center Campus, the Leon Lowenstein Clinic at Saint Vincent's Hospital, and several buildings at Hillside Hospital, now affiliated with the Long Island Jewish Medical Center.

Purpose and Activities

The foundation supports a wide range of projects nationwide. Program areas include education, health and the environment with a particular interest in innovative, scale-able, and transformative projects and organizations.
