Background

Trust established in 1962 in WA - The Stewardship Foundation was created in 1962 by C. Davis Weyerhauser (1909-1999), the grandson of Frederick Weyerhauser, founder of the lumber and paper products company. Dave Weyerhauser felt a deep conviction to encourage organizations to share the Good News of the Christian faith. Mr. Weyerhauser served on the boards of over 60 Christian organizations and it was primarily to these organizations that his philanthropy was directed.

Purpose and Activities

The foundation provides resources to Christ centered organizations which have their primary goal to bring people into a relationship with God through faith in Jesus Christ. The foundation will consider making grants to organizations that promote: 1) Leadership: Preparation and training of servant leaders for the church and marketplace; favors mentoring and discipleship of indigenous leadership in the least evangelized world. 2) Poverty: community development (i.e. health, agriculture, water, education); economic development primarily in the developing world. 3) Reconciliation and Justice: advocacy and intervention on behalf of people suffering injustice, oppression and persecution; protection for refugees and displaced people around the world, and efforts which seek to end the conditions that create displacement; promotion of reconciliation and healing among current and historic enemies; and advocacy and promotion of religious liberty. 4) Relational Evangelism and Discipleship: building relationships and friendships with people for the purpose of introducing them to Jesus Christ. 5) Children at Risk: outreach and support of vulnerable children, protecting then from abuse and unfair treatment; solutions and best practices which enable children to develop into the people God created them to be.
