He began his television career as a writer who would later produce such television hits as "Charlie's Angels," "Dynasty," "Starsky and Hutch," "Family," "Beverly Hills 90210," "Melrose Place," "The Love Boat," "Fantasy Island," "7th Heaven," "Charmed," and "The Mod Squad." Mr. Spelling also produced the HBO miniseries "And the Band Played On, " for which he won his first Emmy Award. He was the father of actress Tori Spelling and actor Randy Spelling
