The Foundation aims to perpetuate his interest in developing countries through its mission to improve health and medical care, especially for rural and remote communities in Nepal. Special emphasis is directed toward the development and technology of the Universal Anesthesia Machine (UAM), a low cost trolley-based workstation providing inhalation anesthesia brought to market by Gradian Health Systems, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Nick Simons Foundation; training for rural health care workers; curricula development; training site start-ups; and programs that help retain health care workers in the field.
