Incorporated in 1950 in IL as the Joseph & Helen Regenstein Foundation; in 1981 merged into Regenstein Foundation which was incorporated in DE - Founded by the late Joseph Regenstein, who was an industrialist whose philanthropy benefited the city of Chicago, especially the University of Chicago, at which the Regenstein Library, named after Mr. Regenstein, is still maintained by grants from the foundation. The foundation was also responsible for the Hall of Music at Northwestern University, the Large Mammal Habitat and the Birds of Prey Exhibit at the Lincoln Park Zoo, the Sea Otter Habitat located in the Shedd Aquarium, and the Vegetable Garden in the Botanical Gardens.
