Purpose and Activities

The primary objective of the foundation is to support programs designed to contribute to the nation's security by providing potential leaders with a comprehensive education, knowledge and depth of understanding of the political, economic and military factors involved in international relations. To this end, the foundation funds the Olmsted Scholar Program, through which career officers are awarded grants for study in a foreign country. The foundation supports active duty regular line officers, service academy cadets, and ROTC cadets. The foundation does not support civilian personnel.

Grants to Individuals Program

Foreign study scholarships by nomination only to career military officers in the Armed Forces.

Olmsted Scholar Program

Each year, the Olmsted Scholar Program offers educational grants for two years of graduate study in a foreign language and other educational experiences in a foreign country to competitively selected career line officers from the four branches of the U.S. military. The foundation has the goal of selecting the most highly qualified officers from the Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marine Corps annually, with the number of scholars selected based on the foundation's financial ability to support them and the available pool of qualified candidates.
