Established in 1987 in VA - The foundation was established by Dr. Claude Moore, a wealthy landowner, who left most of his fortune to enhance the educational opportunities for the young people in Loudoun, VA, and numerous active and possessive recreation facilities, as well as across the Commonwealth of VA and elsewhere. Upon his death, Dr. Moore left his estate to the foundation to increase its capacity for philanthropy

Program-Related Investment

Historically, the foundation leases land to the National Capital Council of the Boy Scouts of America for camping and other scouting activities. The set-aside of this land was approved in 1992 as a charitable grant. Additional land, valued at $13.1 million, was designated for use by the Boy Scouts in 1997. In 2001, a portion of the property under lease was sold.
