Grants to Individuals Program

Prizes to winners of an essay competition for younger scholars in the field of metaphysics. Grants also to leading philosophers for research on key metaphysical concerns.

Research Grant

Applicant must have attained a Ph.D. or equivalent degree and have published an article in Journal of Philosophy, The Philosophical Review, Mind, The Monist, Nous, and/or The Review of Metaphysics. Applicant also must submit a research proposal of not more than three typed pages which demonstrates a detailed knowledge of the work.

Younger Scholar Prize

The program awards an $8,000 prize to scholars who are within ten years of receiving a Ph.D. or students who are currently enrolled in a graduate program. Essays should generally be between 7,500 and 15,000 words. Longer essays may be considered, but authors must seek prior approval by providing the Editor with an abstract and word count prior to submission. The winner will be determined by a committee of members of the editorial board of Oxford Studies in Metaphysics.
