The two foundations were legally merged on June 1,1998, and now operate as the France-Merrick Foundation - The Jacob and Annita France Foundation was created in 1959 by Jacob France, a prominent Baltimore attorney, Chairman of the Mid-Continental Oil Company, and a founder of The Equitable Trust Company.
