Purpose and Activities

The foundation has adopted new, more narrowly defined guidelines centered on the children and youth of Lower Montgomery County, PA, and the nearby surrounding communities. Giving primarily to organizations that: 1) provide for the physical and emotional well-being of children and young people; 2) seek to enable young people, particularly the needy, to reach their fullest potential through education, empowerment, and exposure to the arts; and 3) are smaller organizations, with budgets under $1 million per year.

Program Area(s)

The grantmaker has identified the following area(s) of interest:

Steppingstone Scholars Program

The program prepares inner city school children who are underserved in their current educational environments for acceptance and success at the top independent schools in the Philadelphia, PA, area. The 14-month Academic Program bridges the gaps in the curriculum that place these children at a disadvantage when compared with their peers who attend school in more affluent city and suburban communities, at either independent or neighborhood schools. The Support Services Program assists families with the application process and continues the foundation's connection with the child and family after placement, to ensure a successful transition and long-term success. As a whole, the program works to give families the tools to become empowered to make sound educational decisions. The goal is for each scholar to reach his/her academic potential and ultimately continue with post-high school education. The foundation believes that every child should have access to the same level of educational opportunity, regardless of ethnic, cultural or socio-economic circumstance.
