His theatrical works include "Home of the Brave," "West Side Story," "Gypsy," and "La Cage aux Folles." His movie scripts include "Anastasia," "The Way We Were," and "The Turning Point." In 1984, he won the Tony Award for Best Direction of a Musical for "La Cage aux Folles."
