Established in 1965 in NY - Mr. Kenan was a chemical and mechanical engineering consultant. Early in 1900, he became associated with Henry M. Flagler in the development of enterprises along the east coast of Florida. Mr. Flagler, one of the founders of the original Standard Oil Co., married Mr. Kenan's eldest sister. After the death of Henry Flagler in 1913 and of Mary Lily Kenan Flagler in 1917, Mr. Kenan inherited a share of the Flagler fortune and became part owner and president of the Flagler System companies. Mr. Kenan maintained a lifelong interest in education and one of his principal purposes in providing for the trust was to support education

Purpose and Activities

To support the advancement of education in a broad sense, giving first priority to programs that have the potential to fundamentally improve educational opportunities throughout the United States. In particular, to seek out institutions, programs and activities that hold exceptional promise to become models or guides for more general and lasting value to American society.
