Purpose and Activities

The foundation invests in and with communities to seed or strengthen projects and programs that build the capacity of under-invested neighborhoods, through neighborhood-based programs, resident-led initiatives, projects that test new ideas, and activities that build community spirit. This is done through five funds: the Partnership Fund, Community-Building Strategies Fund, Spirit of the Diamond Fund, and the Jabara Scholarship Fund.

Program-Related Investment

The foundation has provided PRIs in the form of loan guarantees for and working lines of credit established for small local businesses. The foundation views these guarantees as part of its support for the programs being conducted by the Jacobs Center for Neighborhood Innovation in The Diamond Neighborhoods of southeastern San Diego, CA. Historically, the foundation has made a PRI in the form of a loan to an urban housing corporation, to be used in the development of low income housing known as The Encanto Urban Village in San Diego, CA. Historically, the foundation has also made a PRI in the form of a loan to a neighborhood innovation center, to foster the creation of community-owned businesses and to improve the quality of life in southeastern, San Diego, CA's, Diamond Neighborhoods.
