Purpose and Activities

The foundation was established with the broad goal of benefiting society by strengthening institutions dedicated to helping individuals lead healthy and productive lives with dignity. Underlying this goal is the progressive belief in promoting the social and economic empowerment of all individuals. The foundation recognizes that not all individuals have access to the resources or support needed to lead lives of independence and dignity. Whether resulting from economic disparities, racial or gender prejudice, substance abuse or any other number of reasons, people often need a helping hand. This means not only helping those who are underprivileged, but also those who may not have the resources to afford basic necessities without help. Toward those ends, grantmaking seeks to support programs and projects which 1) Provide opportunities, services, and training for individuals to lead independent, productive, and healthy lives; 2) Enhance understanding, tolerance, compassion, and a sense of shared community between all people; 3) Promote a community of caring and compassion; and 4) Promote the preservation of the natural environment.
