Background

Incorporated in 1949 in MI - Ray Wesley Herrick, an industrialist and one-time employee of Henry Ford, founded Tecumseh Products Co., manufacturers of refrigeration units, gasoline engines and transmissions for lawn and garden equipment, recreational vehicles, and pumps. He was chairman of the board and a director of Tecumseh Products Co. A substantial portion of the foundation's assets consist of shares of Tecumseh Products Co. common stock, donated by Mr. and Mrs. Herrick.

Purpose and Activities

Emphasis on higher education, including research grants, scholarship programs (made through college and postgraduate educational institutions, not individual scholarships), and capital funding; grants also for church support, youth, health and welfare agencies, hospitals, and libraries.
