Established in 2006 in NY - Founded by Stephen E. King, a multi-award winning author of horror and suspense, who has written such books as “The Shining,” “Misery,” “Cujo,” “It,” “The Green Mile,” and “The Dark Tower Series,” among many others.

Purpose and Activities

The mission of the foundation is to strengthen and sustain the careers of freelance professional writers, artists and others connected with the entertainment industry across the U.S. The foundation accomplishes its mission through direct financial assistance to qualified persons, including emergency relief assistance and financial support. The foundation provides grants, renewable for up to five years, to freelance artists and writers experiencing career-threatening illness, accidents, natural disasters, or other emergency or personal catastrophes. Eligible applicants must be freelance-qualified persons (defined to include all persons connected with the artistic or entertainment industries including, but not limited to authors, actors, singers, dancers, directors, producers, choreographers, musicians, artists, screenwriters, technical support professionals, or other performers working in the book, movie, music, theater, dance, and television industries) who have derived at least one-third of his/her income over the past three years from his/her personal production, performance, or other work in their industry.
