Background

Established in 1989 in NY - Founded in the name of Dashiell Hammett by playwright Lillian Hellman. The late Mr. Hammett was an author of detective novels and short stories, and is known for the fictitious Sam Spade character he created for his novel "The Maltese Falcon," as well as the Nick and Nora Charles characters from "The Thin Man." The late Ms. Hellman is noted for her plays "The Children's Hour," "The Little Foxes" (for which she also wrote the screenplay), and "Toys in the Attic."
