Goldman Environmental Prize

The prize is given each year to six environmental heroes - one from each of six continental regions: Africa, Asia, Europe, Island Nations, North America and South/Central America. The award currently stands at $150,000. The prize is the world's largest award for grassroots environmentalists, recognizing courageous individuals working against overwhelming odds to preserve the natural environment.
