Established in 1991 in CA - Founded by Richard Gere, a film actor and human rights advocate. He has starred in such films as "American Gigolo," "An Officer and a Gentleman," "Internal Affairs," "Sommersby" and "Pretty Woman," and won a Golden Globe Award as Best Actor for his performance in the film "Chicago." Mr. Gere is also a co-founder of the Tibet House and is Chairman of the Board of Directors of the International Campaign for Tibet. Richard Gere is a signatory to the Hollywood Pledge, to which celebrities pledge to support and list specific charities or causes important to them, while encouraging fan interaction in the hope that their fans will be educated about, and also support, these charities or causes

Purpose and Activities

The foundation awards grants to humanitarian organizations supporting victims of war and natural disasters, providing HIV/AIDS care and research, and addressing human rights violations occurring around the world. Its primary mission is to assist the cultural survival of the Tibetan people through health, technological and educational projects.
