Established in 2000 in VA - The assets of the foundation were derived from 2 sources: 1) Southampton Memorial Hospital Endowment Fund, which was created in the early 1960s to support the hospital, and 2) proceeds from the sale of the hospital to Franklin Hospital Corporation on Mar. 1, 2000.

Purpose and Activities

Giving primarily to new or established nonprofit organizations located in the service area of the foundation, and to provide community leadership, including convening current service providers to collaborate on areas of need, and to encourage cooperation and reduce any duplication of service. Funding priorities include proposals which: 1) provide specific health and safety benefits to the youth and elderly populations of the community, 2) develop ready-to-learn educational skills for students children, 3) provide job training and promote economic development, and 4) promote community leadership, dialogue and cooperation. Additional emphasis is given to community projects that: 1) reach a broad segment of the community with emphasis on meeting diverse needs, 2) assists those whose needs are not being met by existing services, 3) encourages challenge grants or matching gifts to garner additional funding from other sources, 4) brings together groups to work in partnership on issues that affect multiple jurisdictions in the foundation's service area, 5) promotes cooperation among agencies and organizations to avoid duplicating existing services, 6) yields substantial benefits to the community for the costs involved, and 7) clearly defines objectives and methods of evaluating results.
