Purpose and Activities

Giving primarily for research and education in the general field of microbiology. Its funds support lectureships, exchange programs, prizes, and curricular and course development related to the field of microbiology, as well as unusual publications and for other activities in this field that are poorly supported by the usual government agencies. Central concerns of the foundation at present include: raising the public awareness of microbes and their importance to human life; assisting in the general reform of science education in elementary and secondary schools, including K-12 teaching programs that make use of microorganisms; fostering the use of contemporary communication techniques in microbiological education of students and the general public; contributing to improved reporting of microbiological issues; and advancing microbiological expertise in developing countries.
