The foundation's mission is to be an active leader in creating measurably effective environmental programs to protect and restore California's environment. Focus is on preservation of coasts and forests, and on reduction of air pollution and urban sprawl. The foundation's ultimate goal is to restore the balance and health of California's ecosystems.

Air Program

Seeks to reduce diesel exhaust - a prime cause of air pollution and a recognized carcinogen.

Coastal Program

Seeks to protect the California coastline from environmental degradation by eliminating the sources of pollution in coastal waters, preventing damage to the watershed from unsustainable land use patterns, and restoring ecosystems suffering from human encroachment.

Forestry Program

Seeks to eliminate unsustainable logging on all public and private lands in California and fully protect all old growth.

Fresh Water Program

Seeks to prevent the over extraction of water from both surface and underground sources.

Program-Related Investment

Historically, the foundation has made PRIs to environmental organizations in the form of low or no-interest loans. In addition, the foundation has also provided a line of credit to a Santa Monica based organization.

Sustainability Program

Seeks to link and incorporate air quality, energy, and urban issues in order to address traffic congestion, loss of open space, auto-dependency, the disconnect between the location of jobs and housing and other quality-of-life issues.
