Established in 1990; The Daphne Foundation was created in 1991 with the intention of being a resource for New York City. The family foundation envisions a world of thriving communities living in peace, dignity, and justice. As a signatory of Philanthropy’s Promise, an initiative of the National Committee for Responsive Philanthropy (NCRP) they have committed to allocating at least 25% of its grantmaking dollars to social justice strategies. These include, but are not limited to leadership development, advocacy, and community organizing

Purpose and Activities

The Daphne Foundation invests in organizations that empower community residents directly affected by poverty, violence & discrimination to develop solutions that result in a more equitable, fair and peaceful New York City. Applicants and grantees of the Daphne Foundation demonstrate strength in the following areas: 1) Dedication to community leaders; 2) Are community based organizations in New York City; 3) Currently work to address community concerns as defined by community members; 4) Promotes strategies for systematic and/ or institutional change; 4) Understands the importance of collaboration; 5) Are committed to organizational health and sustainability .
