Purpose and Activities

Giving primarily for: 1) Jewish causes which strengthen the Jewish community of Washington, DC, through support of spiritual leaders, synagogues and community programs that educate Jewish children and adults, and support the development of Jewish identity. Priority will be given to leaders, institutions and projects that: a) use innovative tools to examine the current state of Jewish identity; b) foster dialogue and bridge cultural divides; and c) expand Jewish culture in a modern way; 2) Programs that advance and promote public understanding and appreciation for the United States of America and American democracy; 3) Arts and Culture programs, including support for museum activities, performing arts, visual arts, film, media and art education programs. Priority will be given to projects that: a) use art as a tool for public dialogue and education; b) use public celebrations of art as a way to bring the community together; c) share community-building models developed by community-based arts institutions; and d) integrate different segments of society and awaken civic engagement; and 4) Special projects as defined by the foundation's Board of Directors.
