Established in PA - The American Entomological Society is the oldest continuously operating entomological society in the Western Hemisphere. It was founded as the Entomological Society of Philadelphia on March 1, 1859, began a serial publication in 1861, and was incorporated in 1862. The name was changed to the present one in February 1867. In 1875 its headquarters was moved to The Academy of Natural Sciences of Philadelphia, one of the pioneer scientific institutions in North America.
