Starr Co. and other companies which, under the leadership of Maurice Greenberg, Mr. Starr's successor, became American International Group, Inc. Mr. Starr died in 1968 at the age of 76, leaving his estate to the foundation. Mr. Starr's wish was that his partners continue to run his foundation after his death. Under the leadership of Chairman Greenberg, the assets of the foundation have grown from a few million dollars to more than $1 billion today, making it one of the largest private foundations in the United States.
