Purpose and Activities

Program priorities in New York, NY, consist of: 1) Arts- priorities include audience engagement for ages 20s to 30s and underserved communities; 2) Education- priorities include professional development and school-day enrichment programs operating in public schools; and 3) Housing and basic needs - priorities include services to support homeless individuals or those at-risk of losing their homes, food distribution and nutrition programs. Program priorities in Boston and Cape Cod, MA, San Diego, CA, and ME include: health care, education, human and social services, environment and the arts. These proposals are reviewed by individual trustees in those communities. .


Trust established in 1939 in NY - Before his death in 1941, Mr. Sprague, the foundation's sole donor, served as president of F.H. Foster and Company, Inc., a Boston-based cotton-converting firm founded by his uncle, Francis A. Foster. After graduating from Norwich Academy, Mr. Sprague joined F.H. Foster and Company, Inc. and remained with it throughout his life
