Purpose and Activities

Grants for the relief of sickness, suffering, and distress, and for care of young children and the aged, or the helpless and afflicted; support also for education, including child care training

Trust established in 1927 in OH - Founded by the late Jacob G. Schmidlapp, who was a successful banker and industrialist and a positive influence in the charitable community of Cincinnati. He was founder and president of the Union Savings Bank and Trust Company (one of the forerunners of the Fifth Third Bank, the sole trustee of the trust). Mr. Schmidlapp knew that buildings of brick and mortar might not be permanent memorials. He believed in the value of perpetual philanthropy. In addition to the two Schmidlapp trusts, he made several tangible gifts in memory of his family "to assist in having the lives that were so close to me not to have lived in vain." Examples of such gifts are the Emma Louise Schmidlapp Wing of the Cincinnati Art Museum, in memory of a daughter; the Rudolph Oscar Schmidlapp Fund for maintenance and upkeep of that building, in memory of an infant son; and the Emilie Balke Schmidlapp Dormitory at the Cincinnati College of Music, in memory of his wife
