Incorporated in 1948 in IL - Max McGraw was founder of the McGraw-Edison Company and its president for 60 years, as well as a philanthropist whose major interest was wildlife conservation. Mr. McGraw served as trustee of the University of Chicago, the Cancer Research Foundation, and the Thomas A. Edison Foundation, and was president of the American Wildlife Foundation. After his death in 1964, bequests from his estate nearly doubled the foundation's assets. Maxine M. Elrod, daughter of the founder, served on the foundation's board until her death in 1983. Scott M. Elrod, grandson of Max McGraw, has been on the board of directors since 1957.
