Purpose and Activities

The foundation's mission is to promote access to quality health care, especially for those who are uninsured and underserved, and to improve the health of everyone in Maine. The foundation uses its human and financial resources to ensure that all people have access to high quality, affordable health care to achieve or preserve better health. The foundation directs its program, grantmaking, and staff resources to advance four strategic priorities in pursuit of its mission. The foundation's priorities are: advancing health system reform, promoting patient-centered care, improving access to quality care, and achieving better health in communities.

Established in 2000 in ME - The Maine Health Access Foundation (MeHAF) is a health conversion foundation established from sale of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of ME to Anthem Insurance Companies in Apr. 2000. MeHAF is one of Maine's largest health care foundations. MeHAF supports strategic solutions to Maine's health care needs through grants and other programs, particularly targeting those who are uninsured and medically underserved.
