Purpose and Activities

The foundation funds organizations that integrate human rights into their work in and across the following priority areas: women's rights, with an emphasis on reproductive rights and the elevation of women's rights as human rights; environmental sustainability, with an emphasis on promoting social justice within climate change mitigation and adaptation strategies; social justice, with an emphasis on fair application of the law, government accountability and human rights field-building; and drug policy reform, focusing on protecting rights and advancing reforms that lessen the social and economic impacts of the "war on drugs".


Established in 2002 in IL - Founded by Nicholas J. Pritzker, Rhoda Pritzker and the Pritzker Foundation. Nicholas J. Pritzker is Board Chair. and C.E.O. of the Hyatt Development Corporation. The grantmaker is a signatory to Philanthropy’s Promise, an initiative of the National Committee for Responsive Philanthropy (NCRP). By signing on, the grantmaker has committed to allocating the majority of its grantmaking dollars to marginalized communities and at least 25 percent to social justice strategies, such as advocacy, community organizing, and civic engagement
