Purpose and Activities

The mission of the foundation is to develop and encourage the creative art of puppetry in the United States. Emphasis is on contemporary puppet theater for adults, with some focus on new works suitable for family audiences. Grants are awarded for the development of innovative puppet theater by American artists, for American audiences.


Established in 1982 in NY - Founded by the late James Maury "Jim" Henson, a puppeteer and the creator of "The Muppets"
