Established in 1976 in NY - Founded by Thomas and Agnes Carvel. The late Thomas Carvel was the founder of the soft ice cream brand, Carvel, in 1936. In the mid 1930s he borrowed $15 from his future wife, Agnes, to sell ice cream from his truck. He later sold ice cream from a store, and later still, he franchised the Carvel ice cream. He is now considered to be the father of modern franchising.
