The foundation advances its mission through focusing on the following key areas: arts and culture, asset building, basic needs, libraries, innovations in science and technology and youth education.

Established in 2005 in WA. In 2004, The Paul G. Allen Charitable Foundation, along with The Allen Foundation for the Arts, The Paul G. Allen Foundation for Medical Research, The Paul G. Allen Forest Protection Foundation, The Allen Foundation for Music, and The Paul G. Allen Virtual Education Foundation, were consolidated into a new foundation, The Paul G. Allen Family Foundation - Founded by the late Paul G. Allen and his sister, Jo Lynn Allen. Paul G. Allen co-founded Microsoft with Bill Gates in 1975. He was also co-founder and chairman of Vulcan Inc. Ms. Allen is President and C.E.O. of Vulcan Inc., the project and investment management firm she co-founded with Mr. Allen, in 1986. Under the auspices of parent company Vulcan Inc., Mr. Allen was invested in more than 50 companies that cross-sect a wide array of industries, including cable TV and telecommunications, sports, technology, aerospace, entertainment, biotechnology, oil and real estate. The late Paul G. Allen had committed to The Giving Pledge, and he had pledged to give away at least half of his wealth to philanthropy.
