The mission of the foundation is to support and promote the creation of a culture of peace throughout the world, through helping to build, equip, and support programs at the new Desmond Tutu Peace Centre in Cape Town, South Africa.
Established in 1999 in NY - Founded by Desmond Tutu, a South African activist and archbishop. During the 1970s, Mr. Tutu became a prominent opponent of the South African apartheid system, and chaired the Truth and Reconciliation Commission in 1995 that sought to reunite South Africa after the dismantling of apartheid. In 1984, he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize; in 2009, he was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom
