Purpose and Activities

The mission of the foundation is to promote the development of an equitable, sustainable, and productive society in Latin America and to enhance the understanding in the U.S. of Latin America and of how U.S. policies may impact the region. Grants are awarded primarily in the areas of democratic governance, education, and sustainable resource management. More limited support is given for projects addressing U.S. policy toward Latin America and Antarctica.


Trust established in 1959 in NY; incorporated in 1975 in NY - An author, scholar, and lecturer, Dr. Edward Larocque Tinker traveled widely and developed a lifelong interest in the Hispanic tradition shared by the nations of the Western Hemisphere. He created the foundation in memory of his wife, Frances McKee Tinker; his father, Henry Champlin Tinker; and his grandfather, Edward Greenfield Tinker, with the purpose of promoting better understanding between the peoples of the United States and Ibero-America.
