Purpose and Activities

The foundation strives to change the lives of 9-to-13-year-old urban children facing challenging and even life-threatening situations; through social, cultural, and educational activities, the foundation helps participating children succeed in school and in an outside world possessing seemingly insurmountable obstacles.


Established in 1990 - Founded by the late Derrick Thomas, a former professional football player. Thomas was a linebacker for the Kansas City Chiefs from 1989 to 1999. In 1989, he was named both NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year and AFC Rookie of the Year, and in 1993, he was honored with the Walter Payton Man of the Year Award. He died in 2000 from injuries sustained in a car accident. In 2009, he was posthumously inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame
