Purpose and Activities

Giving primarily to promote the widest possible acceptance of democracy, market principles, the rule of law, and strong defense; to encourage strong transatlantic links between Britain, Europe, and North America; to assist and encourage the peoples of the former communist countries and other oppressive regimes across the world as they adopt democracy; to foster greater contact between Western nations and those of the Middle East in the region's search for a lasting peace with security; and to further free trade throughout the world.


Established in 1991 in MD - Founded by the late Margaret Thatcher, a British politician and stateswoman who was a member of Parliament from 1959 to 1992, and served as British Secretary of State for Education and Science from 1970 to 1974. From 1979 to 1990, Thatcher served as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, the first woman to do so.
