Purpose and Activities

Giving primarily for environmental issues, women's issues, including reproductive choice and health-related concerns, civil liberties and democratic values, civil rights and race relations, AIDS research, advocacy, service and litigation, and in Los Angeles, CA only: children and youth-related issues with a focus on the economically disadvantaged.


Established in 1986 in NY - Founded by Barbra Streisand, singer-songwriter and actress. Streisand has won two Academy Awards, eight Grammy Awards, five Emmy Awards, a Special Tony Award, and is one of very few entertainers to have won all of these honors. In 2001, Streisand received the AFI Life Achievement Award, as well as she is the highest ranking female artist on the Recording Industry Association of America's (RIAA) Top Selling Artists list. Some of Streisand's most recognized songs include "The Way We Were," "Evergreen," "No More Tears (Enough is Enough)," and "You Don't Bring me Flowers," among many others. In 2008 she was inducted as a Kennedy Center Honoree. Ms. Streisand is noted for her roles in the Broadway and film versions of "Funny Girl," as well as in the films "Hello, Dolly!," "On a Clear Day You Can See Forever," "The Owl and the Pussycat," "What's up, Doc?," "The Way We Were," "A Star is Born," and "Yentl" (for which she also co-wrote the screenplay as well as directed), among others.
