Giving primarily for education. The foundation also awards grants to students of the Downey High schools who have applied through their school counselors. The foundation does not consider these grants to be scholarships, as this means of giving has evolved into a need program. Grants are awarded to students who want to make something of themselves and contribute to society. Selected students are given a check for $500 (per semester for 4 times) by the high school bookkeeper after they register at a junior college of their choice. This process can be repeated for 3 more times if a 2.5 GPA is maintained, for a total of $2,000.
