Purpose and Activities

The foundation aims to honor the nation's defenders, veterans, first responders, their families, and those in need, by creating and supporting unique programs designed to entertain, educate, inspire, strengthen, and build communities.


Established in 2010 in DE - Founded by Gary Sinise, an actor best known for his Academy Award nominated role as Lt. Dan in the 1994 movie, "Forrest Gump." He also starred in the films "Of Mice and Men" and "Truman," as well as stars on the television show "CSI: NY." Sinise is also a founder of Chicago's Steppenwolf Theatre Company, where in 1982, he directed and starred in Sam Shepard's "True West," playing opposite John Malkovich. The production transferred to New York where it opened off-Broadway, and later, a television recording of the play aired on PBS, starring both Sinise and Malkovich. Sinise also starred on Broadway in a 1986 revival of Harold Pinter's "The Caretaker," the 1990 stage adaptation of "The Grapes of Wrath," and the 2001 revival of "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest."
