Established in 1995 in NY - Founded by the late Maurice Sendak, a writer and illustrator of children's literature, who was best known for his book "Where the Wild Things Are." Sendak was also well known for illustrating Else Holmelund Minarik's "Little Bear" series of books. He has been awarded the Caldecott Medal, the Hans Christian Andersen Award, the Laura Ingalls Wilder Medal and the Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award in its inaugural year. In 2009, Sendak's "Where the Wild Things Are" was made into a feature film, and in 2013, he was inducted in to the New York Writer's Hall of Fame.
