Saroyan is also the author of novels and short stories, and made his breakthrough in 1934 in the Story magazine with "The Daring Young Man on the Flying Trapeze," named after the popular song. His short story collection "My Name is Aram" was an international bestseller in 1940. Also in 1939, Saroyan co-wrote the song "Come on-a My House" with his cousin Ross Bagdasarian, but the song didn't become popular until Rosemary Clooney recorded it in 1951.
