The foundation actively serves the people of St. Paul, Minnesota, and the surrounding communities by building permanent charitable capital, making philanthropic grants, and providing services that contribute to the health and vitality of the community. This is done by working with donors to achieve their philanthropic goals; managing responsibly the foundation's assets; encouraging and participating in community initiatives and partnerships; broadening the base of effective leadership in the community; building awareness of the role of philanthropy in meeting the needs of the community; and providing services to other charitable organizations. The foundation pays special attention to helping achieve the following outcomes through its grants from unrestricted funds: an anti-racist community, economic development for disadvantaged people and communities, strong families that provide healthy beginnings for children and youth, and quality education for all.
