Purpose and Activities

The foundation's grantmaking priorities focus on tackling issues in a comprehensive and coordinated manner to provide the best outcomes for low-income individuals, families and communities. Its current Issue Areas are: Education: Dropout prevention strategies that target the intermediate and middle school years; Health: Community-based health services, including physical, mental and behavioral health; Housing: Supportive housing, defined as affordable housing coupled with on-site support services needed to achieve self-sufficiency; Workforce Development: Job training/placement and jobs creation/small business development opportunities.

Trust established in 1931; incorporated in 1949 in TX; merged with Rockwell Brothers Endowment, Inc. in 1981 - Rockwell Fund, Inc. began in 1931 as a charitable trust created pursuant to the will of James M. Rockwell, an early Houston lumberman, investor and civic leader. In 1949, the trust was reorganized as a Texas not-for-profit corporation. Mr. Rockwell and his wife, Sarah Wade Rockwell, owed their fortune to a string of retail lumberyards in West Texas and New Mexico. Mr. and Mrs. Rockwell's estates, as well as those of three of their four children (James W., Lillian and Henry M.) were added to the foundation at various times between 1931 and 1978 when the last of the immediate family, Henry, died. The lumberyards were disposed of years ago, and today the Fund's assets consist of $117 million in securities. A board of trustees and a staff of six administer the fund
