Purpose and Activities

The foundation helps to secure a healthy environment, promote individuality in the arts, provide support to critical and necessary social services, protect the rights of indigenous people, build a stronger community, and educate children and adults.


Established in 1984 in CA - Founded by members of the Grateful Dead, in honor of their former road manager, the late Rex Jackson. The Grateful Dead (primarily composed of members Jerry Garcia, Bob Weir, Phil Lesh, Bill Kreutzmann, and Mickey Hart) are widely considered to be one of the most influential rock bands of the modern rock era; their albums include American Beauty (1970) and Workingman's Dead (1970). The band was honored with a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2007
