Purpose and Activities

The foundation's interests are: 1) Finding innovative and promising ideas for engaging community college students in California, especially those focused on pocketbook issues; 2) Identifying and supporting promising institutional or third-party programs, or faculty members who have unique solutions to ignite and maintain civic participation and community engagement among community college students; 3) Solutions that address specific challenges to successful program implementation faced by students, faculty, and administration; 4) Using new tools, technologies and organizing methods to support distributed models of engagement and activism on a community college or among community college students; and 5) Taking a risk on unconventional or untried approaches .


Established in 2003 in CA - The grantmaker is a signatory to Philanthropy’s Promise, an initiative of the National Committee for Responsive Philanthropy (NCRP). By signing on, the grantmaker has committed to allocating the majority of its grantmaking dollars to marginalized communities and at least 25 percent to social justice strategies, such as advocacy, community organizing, and civic engagement
