Purpose and Activities

The foundation provides grants in the U.S. for ballet and modern dance performances, funds dance schools and dance scholarships, provides financial assistance for the creation of new choreography, and supports the establishment of dance collections and film archives to preserve the history, tradition and appreciation of dance.


Established in 1991 in IL - Founded by the late Rudolf Nureyev, who was a Russian dancer, primarily known for his solo ballet performances and his duets with Margot Fonteyn. Mr. Nureyev defected to the West while on tour with the Russian ballet in 1961.
