Purpose and Activities

The organization works to focus global attention and resources towards putting an end to mass atrocities around the world by drawing on the powerful voices of artists, activists, and cultural leaders to generate lifesaving humanitarian assistance and protection for the vulnerable, marginalized, and displaced.


Established in 2007 in NY - Founded by actors George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, and Don Cheadle; the late film producer Jerry Weintraub; and human rights lawyer David Pressman. Mr. Clooney co-starred as Dr. Doug Ross on the NBC television drama "ER" from 1994 to 1999, a role for which he was nominated for Emmy Awards for Outstanding Lead Actor - Drama Series in 1995 and 1996. He won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor in 2005 for his work in the film "Syriana." In 2009 the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences awarded George Clooney the fourth Bob Hope Humanitarian Award, in recognition of his exceptional efforts to mobilize the entertainment industry in service during crises. He also co-starred in the films "Gravity" (2013) and "Monuments Men" (2014). Mr. Pitt was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his work in "Twelve Monkeys" (1995), and an Academy Award for Best Actor for "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" (2008). His other films include "Thelma and Louise" (1991), "Interview with the Vampire" (1994), "Fight Club" (1999), "Ocean's Eleven" (2001), and "World War Z" (2013). Mr. Damon won an Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay for "Good Will Hunting" in 1997; he has also starred in "The Talented Mr. Ripley" (1999), "Ocean's Eleven" (2001), "The Departed" (2006), "Elysium" (2013), and "The Monuments Men" (2014). Mr. Cheadle was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actor in 2004 for his work in "Hotel Rwanda"; he has also co-starred in the films "Ocean's Eleven" (2001),"Crash" (2004), "Iron Man 2" (2010), and "Iron Man 3" (2013). Mr. Weintraub served as chairman and chief executive officer of United Artists Entertainment LLC.
