Purpose and Activities

Scholarship awards for college or vocational training to high school seniors who are fatherless boys (either because the father is actually deceased or has been declared missing by a competent authority) and who are native to one of the five counties of Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery, or Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. These seniors may attend school anywhere in the United States, or abroad if part of a U.S.-based college degree program. Preference for those desirous of obtaining a naval education. No giving to attend graduate school.

Established in 2002 in PA, US; Original trust established in 1902. Fully funded in 1952 - The trust was created under the will of Col. John McKee. Pursuant to his will, McKee (who died April 6, 1902) gave the residue of his estate for the erection of a college, with emphasis on nautical training. After years of litigation, it was determined that the estate, though significant, was inadequate to establish a nautical school in accordance with the terms of the will. In 1952, a Philadelphia court ruled that the estate should be used in a manner that most closely approximates the original intended charitable purposes, with income to be used for a scholarship fund.
